Unfortunately, recent statistics show that 50% of Men over the age of 50 have some form of hair loss. The most common form of hair loss is called Androgenic Alopecia, or male pattern baldness.
Androgenic alopecia develops when the hair follicle experiences a reduction in size, as well the amount of time it takes for a hair follicle to grow. Hair grows in cycles of various phases: Anagen phase is the growth phase. The hair follicle continues to grow until it reaches the next stage of the cycle. The catagen phase is a short transition stage that occurs at the end of the anagen phase. It signals the end of the active growth of a hair. The telogen phase is the resting phase of the hair follicle. When the body is subjected to extreme stress, as much as 70 percent of hair can prematurely enter the telogen phase. This hair begins to fall out, causing a noticeable loss of hair. Androgenic alopecia does not develop in all hair follicles at the same time. This is why some part of the scalp seems to be losing more hair than the other.
Many men start to resort to over the counter medications and topical solutions to try and stop or reverse thinning or balding. Many are very disappointed to see that their hair does not return as advertised. Some products have been shown to slow down the process of hair loss, however, over time or discontinued use of the product will eventually lead to the inevitable – hair loss.
Surgical procedures such as hair restoration or hair transplants have come a long way, and have become more successful in recent years, however, they are expensive, painful, time consuming, leave scarring, and may or may not be successful. Also, there is no guarantee that the procedure will work in the long run.
You do not need to be a victim of balding or all the advertising and marketing of hair restoration and hair transplanting schemes. At The Scalp Micropigmentation Center, we understand what you are going through. The owner and operator himself suffered from hair thinning in his late 20’s.
